Truck: 2011 king cab pro-4x. Got add a leaf and medium front springs, stock front bumper. This is gonna be a long one... First off, the staff at ADO are TOP NOTCH! I asked them to delay shipment as I had a trip planned to Death Valley and it was no problem at all. Great communication. Helpful with my one bonehead installation question.
Unfortunately, I accidentally hit a jump in my truck on a well graded road shortly before receiving my suspension package in the mail. Couldn't see the jump due to the sun. Hit it at about 35 mph. Popped my driver's airbag, broke rear glass, tires tucked up into the body and bent some stuff, cracked exhaust manifold, smashed in swaybar mounts, broke headlight mounts on one side, etc. I drove it 100 miles home on the highway. Loud as heck but drove straight as an arrow. IInsurance would have totaled but I fixed absolutely everything for cheap. These trucks are literal tanks.
Thankfully I had ordered moog upper and lower control arms at the recommendation of ADO staff when I ordered the suspension kit. I didn't pop any ball joints, bend a tie rod, or bust a CV when I hit the jump but the ball joint boots were cracked. Highly recommend ordering new control arms from rock auto if you're installing this kit, might as well do it all at once and save time. They are also pretty cheap.
Suspension install was relatively easy. Had to torch and hammer some stuff up front due to my jump... but it wasn't hard at all. The rear shocks install with the boot side being the opposite of the stock shocks on my pro 4x. I called ADO and they graciously helped me out and didn't call me an idiot which I appreciated (i was an idiot). I got the add a leaf pack for the rear and did not reinstall the overload leaf. After settling I measured 2 inches of lift in the rear and 2.25 in the front on all corners. 1.5 inch rake. Alignment was perfect with the included LCA cam bolts.
I have driven it on and off road for the last month. On road handling is comfortable but tight. Handles really well around corners, no additional sway (still have the front sway bar attached). Handles better than stock. I live in Arizona and there are some deep (1.5 inch or so) potholes on many of the highways and the speed limit is 75. I used to clench real hard when I hit those, the rear end would jump all around and it was hairy. Now I can't even feel them. I can drive with so much more confidence vs stock suspension.
I haven't done any serious off roading yet, but i've driven some washboard fire roads with obstacles/holes/rocks/banked and crappy roads. It handles like a dream! This is how this truck should have come from the factory. I can't even feel washboard roads, before my fillings would rattle out. I have e load rated tires and used to always air down just to get down these washboards with some comfort. Washboards are now more comfortable than they were airing down with my stock suspension. My rear end would also kick out on washboards, now it stays dead straight even when I am going fast. Power to the wheels is also improved over my old saggy set up; you can really feel it. I have so much more confidence off road now.
I am mostly a hunter/hiker/adventurer and this is the perfect set up for me. I don't do anything crazy, but I do travel some really bad trails getting to my hunting spots. I now feel so much more confident in my truck and know it can take me wherever I need to. My gas milage was also hardly impacted. I got 17.5 average on a road trip from AZ to national parks in California including some off roading. I am now getting about 16.5-17 with mixed driving. This might be because my front air dam was ripped off when I hit that jump... either way I was expecting a bigger hit in fuel economy.
I can't thank the ADO team enough and will be buying everything frontier from them going forward!
